Although it is a rather abstract philosophical problem, the question whether humans have a free will or not often has an indirect but strong influence on people's political convictions. If one thinks that people aren't really free, one tends to value economic and political freedom much less. The current social and political impact of that debate is of course very small, but it is essential that we engage in this debate to preserve human freedom in the long run. Dr. Verhulst holds degrees in both quantum chemics and philosophy, and has published on political theory. Starting with the fundamental assumptions we hold about the nature of reality, he explained how human freedom is indeed conceivable, and its preservation morally significant.
